ALL INDIA RADIO (AIR) :
India has begun its radio journey in 1923 by starting private stations in Mumbai and Calcutta. In 1930, the Indian Broadcasting Service, under the Department of Industries and Labour started its operation. In 1936, it became ALL India Radio (AIR).
AIR is one of the largest radio networks in the world. It has 483 broadcasting stations across India and broadcasting in more than 25 languages.

Radio broadcasting in Sri Lanka was started on 16 December 1925 using a medium wave radio transmitter of one kilowatt of output power from Colombo.
